Knowledge Management is essential in any form of organization, as well as communities. It is a strategic commitment which is utilized to gather information and retrieve knowledge which will then be used for the development of an organization or a community, may it be infrastructure, technological, economical, agricultural, education etc. However, knowledge management does not always have to have huge noticeable improvements in its community right away. Just like all other things, knowledge management happens one step at a time. Knowledge management goes through ups and downs as well.
Take this example for instance: I have been an active member of the Sangguniang Kabataan in my barangay for about 3-4 years now. Every year, our SK officials conduct various activities for our barangay youths such as clean up drive, tree planting activities, even collaborations through seminars such as Mental Health Awareness, Adolescence Reproductive Health Seminars, Anti-Drug & Anti-Terrorism seminars and more where we invite speakers who are knowledgeable on the said matters. Our SK officials gather information by implementing attendance sheets in every activity they conduct. Through that, they have learned that unfortunately, there are very few youths in our barangay who participate. They have learned that one reason is the majority of our youths are busy students or already working and could not find the time to join SK activities. Another reason is that there are few youths left in our barangay as more residents are leaving due to our certain areas in the barangay becoming more and more commercialized over the years. In order for our barangay SK to thrive for improvement and share knowledge to the youth, our SK chairman encourages us to invite more youths to join their activities despite not being a resident of our barangay.
