Effective Practice of a Good Management System: The Mediatrix Society

The Mediatrix Society is an organization exclusively for BA Communication students in the University of Baguio. This student organization reflects a good practice of knowledge management in which they excel on the four pillars Knowledge Management Architecture. The following pillars include:

Leadership

Serves as a role model and mediator in a group or an organization.

The current president of the Mediatrix Society shows outstanding leadership in keeping the organization stay in line with their goals and objectives. Despite sudden workloads that come in the organization at any moment, he manages to keep the team on track by implementing planner and a tracker on tasks, as well as conducting meetings to receive updates with the progress of each committee. He is easy to approach whenever a member needs any help with their tasks.

Involving people/members

For effective knowledge management, the organization’s members are assigned under committees that are aligned to their skills, making the work within the group go smoothly.

Technology

Tools used to achieve an effective knowledge management

Being a generation living with continuously advancing technology, the Mediatrix Society utilizes technology to communicate within and outside its organization, as well as managing knowledge. The organization utilizes google meet in cases where they are unable to conduct their meeting online, using shared document (gdoc) for tracking progress and file sharing through gdrive has been of heavy use.

Learning

The acquisition of knowledge

Every year when bringing in new members, the old members are elected in other positions to expand their knowledge, and learn to be flexible and adaptable. With guidance of members who used to be in a certain position, maintenance of good acknowledgement is observed.

All these practices under the four pillars of Knowledge Management Architecture helps the Mediatrix Society be a well-functioning and successful organization.However this does not mean that all is well and that there is no more room for improvement. The organization may be excelling on these aspects however there are also downsides that hinders them too. One of which is their relationship with time. Being a full-time student and being an active member of an organization is not an easy task. There are still times where its members fall behind their supposed due dates of their tasks or failing to arrive on time due to other reasons such as their academic responsibilities. If there is one thing that the organization needs to improve more, that is time management.
